Digital Transmission: NBC DG woos foreign investors

Mallam Is’haq Modibbo Kawu, Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), has encouraged foreign investors to 'see Nigeria as a fertile investment destination' for the broadcast ecosystem.

The NBC D.G, told foreign broadcast development experts and equipment manufacturers at the just concluded International Broadcasters Conference (IBC) held in Netherlands, that "Nigeria is the biggest market in Africa where opportunities abound", while adding that "we have qualified and able workforce."

IBC, the premier annual event for broadcast professionals, provides the needed platform for broadcasters across the world to meet and learn from the most engaged players in the International Broadcast Industry in terms of content creation, latest digital technology, management and delivery of entertainment and news content worldwide.

The conference which had in attendance, over 55,000 participants and exhibitors from more than 170 countries, also provided the platform for the NBC D.G to meet with some key players and manufacturers of the latest broadcast technologies, in connection with the Commission’s monitoring activities and the digital switch-over.

The DG, who promised to improve and strengthen the Commission’s monitoring strategies and technique, met with MediaGuru, a company which offers large scale digitization services across the world; Axel Technology SRL, Italy; GATESAIR, France, which had on display, one of its latest TV Transmitters- the Maxiva ULXT with PowerSmart Plus, Pinnacle Communications Ltd, MediaCast Network, among others.

While discussing with some broadcast equipment manufacturers, the DG emphasized that the system that would best suit the monitoring need of the Commission, “is one that can record simultaneously, multiple channels, within a particular location or region, and also provide easy access to the materials when there is need to retrieve what has been recorded, for analysis.”
